Gachagua Ready to Accept Impeachment: “I Don’t Have to Lead” Si Lazima Niongoze”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accepted that he could be impeached, saying he’s ready to go home if it happens. This follows the High Court’s decision not to stop Parliament from moving forward with the impeachment motion.

Speaking to the public, Gachagua said he would respect the outcome, stating, “If MPs impeach me, I will leave. It’s not necessary that I must lead.”

Gachagua’s Appeal to Mt. Kenya

Gachagua urged the people of Mt. Kenya to stay united, warning that division would lead to problems for the region. He stressed that unity is the key to maintaining political and economic power.

“My message to Mt. Kenya is to remain united. I don’t need to be the one leading you; any leader can. But to keep our place in government and ensure our future, you must stay united,” he said.

He further explained that some MPs from Kenya Kwanza are pushing for his removal because of his continuous calls for unity within Mt. Kenya. He warned that if the region becomes divided, it would lose its strength, influence, and ability to develop both politically and economically.

“If I am impeached, it will create division, and Mt. Kenya will face serious difficulties. That’s what those pushing for my removal want. If they succeed in dividing us, our political and developmental progress will stop. Even if another leader takes over, Mt. Kenya must remain united,” Gachagua added.

Why Gachagua Fights for Unity

In an interview with journalists from Mt. Kenya East on Sunday, September 30, Gachagua reiterated that his main concern is to ensure the region remains united. He believes unity is essential for securing social, economic, and political benefits, as well as maintaining a strong presence in government.

Gachagua’s dedication to unity is influenced by his experience during the era of former President Daniel Moi, which taught him the importance of keeping Mt. Kenya united.
