Jose Mourinho reprimanded reporters who questioned his squad selections after Fenerbahce’s 2-2 draw against Samsunspor in the Turkish Super Lig on October 20. The match, held at the Samsun 19 Mayis Stadium, saw third-placed Samsunspor hold Fenerbahce to a stalemate.
Mourinho was forced to answer to some questions about why some players did not get as many minutes as expected.
“I’m starting to learn what Turkey is. I’m surprised that you don’t ask why goalkeeper Irfan doesn’t play, I’m surprised that you don’t ask about Cenk Tosun, I’m surprised because you always ask about the players that don’t play,” he said, as quoted by ESPN.
Mourinho tells journalists to ‘stop crying’
The Portuguese head coach, who took over this summer after being dismissed by AS Roma, faced questions about his decision to start Irfan Can Kahveci on the bench. Kahveci was brought on at the hour mark.
“‘I expected these questions because you ask them every week now. You keep crying about players who don’t play.”
The draw left Mourinho’s side eight points adrift of league leaders Galatasaray, but they have a game in hand.
