Nairobi – Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni dramatically stormed out of a live interview on TV47, refusing to engage in a debate with Dadaab MP Farah Maalim.
The two were set to discuss national issues, but Kioni abruptly left the studio, citing Maalim’s past controversial remarks. Kioni expressed strong disapproval of Maalim’s alleged comments about killing 5,000 young Kenyans during anti-government protests, stating he could not, in good conscience, participate in the debate if Maalim was involved.
His decision to leave underscored the intensity of his outrage and moral stance against the MP’s past rhetoric.
“Carry on. I cannot be able to sit with such a person,” Kioni stated as he gathered his belongings and left the studio in anger.
Speaking to journalists outside the premises, Kioni expressed his profound grief over the deaths of Gen Z protesters during the anti-government demonstrations earlier in the year. He condemned Maalim for his alleged comments, emphasizing that engaging in a debate with the Daadab representative would be beneath him.
“I cannot sit to discuss with Farah Maalim when he took the position of killing 5000 Gen Zs in this country. That is why we’re losing this country; because of individuals who have no character, and we are calling them leaders, national leaders. I cannot demean myself to the level of discussing with him.
Kioni expressed that Maalim should face consequences by being removed from parliament, accusing him of lacking the moral integrity to serve in office. He also called on Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party to take stronger action in recalling Maalim, despite the difficulties involved.
Kioni acknowledged the systemic challenges political parties face when dealing with unruly MPs, noting that he encountered similar issues during his time with jubilee.
“He actually should be removed from parliament; he should have been recalled from parliament but with William Ruto we will have all these kind of people until the day comes when we remove all of them; kufa dereve, kufa makanga na abiria ni hawa akina Farah. Wiper party needs to do more and remove him from parliament. But you also know to remove these MPs with the system protecting them is very difficult for political parties. We’ve similar guys in Jubilee we were not able to remove them because of William Ruto,” Kioni added as he drove off.
On Tuesday, July 9, a video surfaced on X, suggesting that Daadab MP Farah Maalim had threatened Gen Zs. However, the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly dismissed the viral clip, calling it fake.
Maalim claimed that the video had been doctored by unidentified individuals from Somalia to distort his statements. In response to the public outrage sparked by the video, Sarova Whitesands announced that they could no longer accommodate the Daadab MP due to the backlash generated by the alleged remarks.
