“In the last mile, it was really hard. I pushed myself. This means that my training has been good. I’m so happy. I pushed myself to the limit,” said an elated Chepkirui, as quoted by Olympics.

In the men’s marathon, there was also a first major win for Abdi Nageeye as the Dutchman held off Evans Chebet in the home stretch. Nageeye clocked 2:07:39 ahead of Chebet and Albert Korir.

New York Marathon Prize Money

So, what will the New York Marathon podium finishers take home? As one of the most lucrative races globally and typically the final major of the year, the New York Marathon offers substantial rewards.

This year’s champions, Sheila Chepkirui and Abdi Nageeye, will each receive an impressive $100,000 (around 12.8 million Kenyan shillings) in prize money.

Obiri and Chebet will take home 60,000 USD each (7.7 million Kenya shillings) for coming in second.

Korir and Cheruyiot will get 40,000 USD each (5.1 million Kenya shillings), which is the amount set aside for third-place finishers as captured on the website.
