Kericho Tragedy: Phone Explosion Suspected in Fire That Claimed Three Children’s Lives
A devastating fire in Moburo village, Kapsogut location, Kericho County, on the night of Friday, December 6, claimed the lives of three children who were burned beyond recognition. According to local residents, the fire may have been caused by a phone left charging by the children’s parents before leaving.
The tragedy unfolded when the children, aged between four and ten years, were locked inside their timber house by an older sibling who had gone to play at a nearby home. Residents noticed thick smoke emerging from the house and rushed to the scene. Despite their frantic efforts to extinguish the flames, the fire spread rapidly due to the wooden construction of the house and strong winds that night.
Police officers from Cheborgei Police Station arrived at the scene to retrieve the children’s remains, which were taken to Kapkatet Hospital mortuary. The incident has left the family and the entire community in immense grief.
