Fred Kerley: Olympic Medallist Arrested After Police Confrontation
Olympic medallist Fred Kerley was arrested in Florida and charged with battery, resisting an officer, and disorderly conduct.
A video circulating online shows four police officers striking the sprinter repeatedly before subduing him with a stun gun during the altercation.
Kerley, one of the world’s fastest sprinters, recently capped off a stellar 2024 season by winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics in August.

What Happened with Fred Kerley?
According to USA Today, Fred Kerley was booked into jail on Friday, facing charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer. He later appeared in court and was released on bail.
WSVN News reported that the 29-year-old sprinter approached an active police investigation to address concerns about his parked car. Police stated that Kerley refused to leave the scene when instructed and ignored lawful commands, which escalated into a confrontation.
A video circulating online shows officers punching Kerley multiple times as they wrestled him to the ground during the arrest.
“Stop resisting!” one of the officers said to Kerley.”I’m not resisting, get off of me, bro,” Kerley replied.
His girlfriend, Cleo Rahman, was also arrested for resisting arrest. Police added domestic violence charges arising from an incident back in May 2024.
“I can say that Mr. Kerley is a record-breaking athlete who has honorably and successfully represented our nation in the Olympics many times. These charges are false and indicate the brutal police state that Miami Beach has become,” Kerley’s lawyer, Richard L. Cooper, said via CBS News.
On her Instagram stories, Cleo Rahman, also known as DJ Sky High Baby, shared another angle of the Fred Kerley altercation with police from last night in Miami.

Fred Kerley: Sixth Fastest Man in History with a Time of 9.76 Seconds
Fred Kerley is recognized as the sixth fastest man in history, boasting an impressive 100m time of 9.76 seconds, according to World Athletics. He also won a silver medal in the event at the 2020 Olympics.
Kerley Questions Omanyala’s African Record
Kerley has competed in Kenya, notably at the Kip Keino Classic World Continental Tour Gold. However, the American sprinter appeared to cast doubt on Ferdinand Omanyala’s African record, set in 2021 in Kenya. As TrendyNews.co.ke previously reported, Kerley remarked, “Them races in Kenya don’t really count. I don’t really care, but he already knows what it is.”
In September 2021, Omanyala became Africa’s fastest man, clocking 9.77 seconds at the Kip Keino Classic held at Kasarani Stadium.
