The bizarre incident unfolded on Kwacha Road when Miniva Kakunta and Duella Abaas collided in a traffic mishap. According to Mwebantu, Abaas, driving a Ford Ranger, misjudged the speed of Kakunta’s Toyota Mark X, resulting in a rear-end collision. Instead of stopping, Abaas fled, triggering a high-speed chase by the irate female motorist. During the pursuit, both drivers, traveling at excessive speeds, failed to stop at a T-junction and crashed into a cemetery, damaging eight tombstones.

Shocked relatives gathered at the site to assess the damage, demanding justice for the desecration of their loved ones’ graves. Eyewitnesses described the chase as reckless and life-threatening, with both vehicles dangerously weaving through traffic before crashing into the cemetery.

“The drivers were speeding and seemed entirely focused on each other. It was a frightening scene,” one witness stated.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the extensive damage to the tombstones, leaving families distraught. Mweemba added that both drivers would face charges of malicious damage to property under the Criminal Offences Act and the Public Health Act.
