A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was fatally shot in Likoni, Mombasa, following a dispute over an unpaid boda boda fare. The officer reportedly tried to avoid paying rider Antony Otieno by pretending to make phone calls after alighting.
When asked to settle the fare, the officer allegedly fired shots into the air.
The situation escalated when Otieno disarmed the officer and pushed him off the motorcycle as the officer attempted to flee, leading to a tragic confrontation.
Deadly Scuffle in Likoni: KDF Officer Killed After Dispute Over Unpaid Boda Boda Fare
A tragic incident unfolded in Likoni, Mombasa, when a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was killed following a confrontation over an unpaid boda boda fare. According to reports, the officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, attempted to avoid paying the fare after disembarking from the motorcycle at Likoni Primary Vyemani Grounds by making several phone calls.
When rider Antony Otieno demanded payment, the officer allegedly pulled out an AK-47 rifle, firing shots into the air, which injured two bystanders.
“The boda boda rider began insisting on payment, but the officer opened his bag, retrieved the gun, cocked it, and fired into the air to intimidate the rider,” the report stated.
The situation quickly escalated as Otieno overpowered the officer and disarmed him during a struggle. The officer reportedly bit Otieno’s nose in the altercation.
In an attempt to flee, the officer jumped onto the motorcycle, but Otieno managed to pull him to the ground. As the scuffle intensified, the officer fired several more shots, but Otieno succeeded in taking control of the weapon.
Bystanders intervened to support Otieno, which led to a fatal confrontation, ultimately resulting in the officer’s death. His body was taken to the Coast General Hospital mortuary.
Police from Inuka Police Station arrived at the scene, recovering the firearm, 12 rounds of ammunition, a motorcycle, a mobile phone, and four spent cartridges as evidence. The injured bystanders were rushed to Likoni Sub-County Hospital for treatment, while investigations into the incident continue.
