Why Zari Hassan Is in Kenya: “This Is Home”

South African-based Ugandan entrepreneur and influencer Zari Hassan touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday, January 22, accompanied by her second-born son, Raphael Tlale. A video circulating online captured the pair at the airport’s arrivals section, where they were warmly welcomed by a lady and a gentleman who helped with their luggage.

Dressed in casual sweatpants and comfortable shoes, Zari spoke briefly with journalists and bloggers who had gathered to meet her. “My flight was good, but there was too much turbulence,” she told journalist Kalondu Musyimi.

Zari revealed the purpose of her visit, saying she is in Kenya for the launch of a new phone model by an international brand. Beyond the professional commitment, she shared her excitement about enjoying Kenyan cuisine. “I love sukuma wiki and nyama choma. I look forward to eating it,” she said with a smile.

Explaining why her son joined her on the trip, Zari noted that Raphael is exploring opportunities in the film industry. “He’s trying to get into behind-the-scenes work, so I told him to come and experience Kenya. You guys are always so welcoming.”

The duo was escorted to a waiting Mercedes Benz sedan by a bodyguard and driven to their hotel. Fans and admirers expressed their excitement over Zari’s visit, with many sharing their admiration for her online.

  • chelsea_otakwa: “Zari carried the Netflix show for real. She’s the lead actress.”
