A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Eastleigh when a woman publicly demanded that a man take responsibility for their child. The incident, which drew a crowd of onlookers, quickly became the talk of the bustling neighborhood.
The woman, visibly frustrated, was heard shouting, “Chukua mtoto wako! Si uliniambia nitafute watoto? Haya, ndio huyu sasa, mchukue!” (Take your child! Didn’t you tell me to have children? Well, here he is, now take him!). The man, clearly caught off guard, struggled to respond, muttering in defense, “Huyu mtoto wangu kweli, lakini siwezi mchukua sasa!” (Yes, he’s my child, but I can’t take him now!).
The escalating argument captured the attention of passersby, who stopped to watch and offer their opinions. Some were seen shaking their heads in disapproval, while others shouted, “Msilete mtoto kwa hii vita yenu!” (Don’t drag the child into your fight!). The young boy, visibly distressed, clung to his mother as she held out a bag of his belongings toward the man, insisting he take the child immediately.
The heated exchange quickly turned into a public spectacle, prompting a concerned elder to intervene and suggest the case be handled by local authorities. The area chief was summoned to address the issue, and onlookers cheered as the woman firmly declared she would not leave until the matter was resolved.
When the chief arrived, he calmed the situation and asked both parties to follow him to his office for mediation. Onlookers applauded the chief’s presence, with one person remarking, “Afadhali amekuja. Mtoto si wa kuchezewa hivi.” (It’s good he came. A child is not something to be toyed with like this).
