Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed on Sunday, December 15, that the government plans to recruit 5,000 police officers across the country in 2025.
Speaking in Turkana County, Kindiki acknowledged delays in previous recruitment efforts but assured that the new administration, under President William Ruto, is committed to strengthening the nation’s security.
The recruitment is intended to address security challenges in volatile regions and enhance overall national safety.
Kindiki emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to improve policing and secure communities, particularly in areas prone to insecurity.
Kindiki Announces March 2025 Police Recruitment Plan
During an interdenominational service in Lodwar, Turkana County, on Sunday, December 15, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki disclosed that the government will conduct a police recruitment exercise in March 2025.
The deputy president highlighted that the initiative aims to enhance security in volatile regions and across the country. Kindiki also acknowledged delays in previous recruitment efforts, reassuring that the new administration remains committed to strengthening the nation’s security infrastructure.
He further noted that the recruitment is part of President William Ruto’s broader agenda to create more job opportunities for Kenyans, aligning with the government’s pledge to address unemployment while improving security.
”We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces and even for that of police officers that had delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March. We are trying to create more job opportunities in the public sector and the informal sectors,” he added.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has stated that the government will prioritize deploying the newly recruited police officers to northeastern Kenya, a region often plagued by security challenges.
Speaking in Turkana during an interdenominational service, Kindiki also pledged to support the incoming Interior Cabinet Secretary. Despite stepping down from the role, he assured his willingness to share insights and guidance with his successor to ensure a seamless transition and continued focus on enhancing national security.
The recruitment exercise, slated for March 2025, is part of a larger effort to bolster security in vulnerable regions and provide job opportunities to Kenyans.
“Even as Deputy President, I will continue to work with the new interior CS to make sure that our country is safe. We pray for the minister but we will be there to offer backup to make sure that our country is safe,” he added.Â
KDF Denies Claims of Recruitment for Personnel and Civilian Employees
The government has rejected online reports alleging that the Ministry of Defence is recruiting service personnel and civilian employees, calling the advertisements fraudulent.
The Ministry clarified that no recruitment process is currently taking place and emphasized that official announcements from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are made through verified channels.
Authorities cautioned the public against falling victim to these deceptive schemes, which aim to exploit unsuspecting Kenyans.
Additionally, efforts are underway to identify the source of the misinformation, and citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activities.
