Kisumu: Orongo Village in Shock After Tragic Killing Over a Wheelbarrow
Kisumu East Sub-County’s Orongo village is reeling in shock after a petty dispute over a wheelbarrow turned deadly. A 23-year-old man, Edward Otieno Oyuru, lost his life following a brutal attack, allegedly by his acquaintance, Ford Rakwach.
Kisumu East Sub-County police boss Edward Masivo confirmed the chilling incident. “The suspect fled after committing the heinous act, but we are actively pursuing him. We urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward,” Masivo appealed.
The Tragic Turn of Events
Eyewitness accounts paint a grim picture of the events leading to the fatal altercation. Edward reportedly visited Rakwach’s home to retrieve a wheelbarrow he had lent him after assisting with construction work. What seemed like a simple errand spiraled out of control when Rakwach became enraged, accusing Edward of taking the wheelbarrow without his permission.
Driven by anger, Rakwach allegedly followed Edward to his home, armed with crude weapons. A violent confrontation ensued, leaving Edward with severe head injuries.
A Race Against Time
Neighbors rushed the badly injured Edward to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH). Despite the medical team’s best efforts, Edward succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
A Village in Mourning
The tragic incident has left the community in disbelief. “We’re devastated. This young man’s life was senselessly cut short over something that could have been resolved peacefully,” lamented a resident who chose to remain anonymous.
As investigations continue, Edward’s body now lies at the JOOTRH morgue, a somber reminder of a life lost too soon.
Police are calling on the public to assist in bringing the fugitive suspect to justice. Meanwhile, the Orongo community is left grappling with the devastating loss and reflecting on the fragility of life.
