Tragic Embu Accident: One Dead in Collision Involving Tahmeed Bus and Two Lorries

A fatal road accident occurred at approximately 8:30 PM on Wednesday, January 15, near Embu’s sewage area, involving a Tahmeed Bus, a maize-laden lorry, and another carrying firewood.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident began when a lorry headed toward Nairobi experienced brake failure, crashing into a stationary lorry undergoing inspection by Embu County enforcement officers at a roadblock. The collision also involved the Tahmeed Bus.

Rescue efforts took over an hour as police and local residents struggled to free victims trapped in the wreckage of the two lorries. A breakdown truck was used to separate the mangled vehicles. Tragically, one lorry driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby county hospital.

“The lack of proper rescue tools delayed efforts, possibly costing one victim their life,” an eyewitness said.

Fortunately, the bus passengers escaped unharmed. “They were incredibly lucky to walk away without injuries,” noted Francis Ndirangu, coordinator of the Kirimari Ward rescue team.

The incident highlights the critical need for improved road safety measures and better-equipped rescue operations to prevent such tragedies in the future.
