Citizen TV’s Power Couple: Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdallah’s Journey of Love and Fate
For over 15 years, celebrated Swahili news anchors Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdallah have built a beautiful life together, a union that began when fate brought them together during an unexpected chapter in Lulu’s life.
Lulu wasn’t searching for love when she met Rashid. She was grieving the loss of her mother and had reluctantly returned to a job she had left behind. Reflecting on their journey, Lulu believes everything aligned perfectly to lead her to Rashid.
“Rashid came into my life during a very difficult time. I had just lost my mother,” she recalled. Before her mother’s passing, Lulu had been working in Nairobi but left her job at Radio Salaam. Circumstances, however, brought her back to the same role, where Rashid had just been hired.
Their connection didn’t start as a romance but as a deep friendship. Rashid became a source of emotional support, helping Lulu navigate her grief.
“He came as a friend first. When you are mourning, you need someone to lean on. Rashid became that person for me—a father figure I didn’t have in my family. Slowly, things moved forward,” Lulu shared.
What began as friendship blossomed into love, and the two tied the knot in 2009. Today, they are proud parents of three children and continue to grow together as a couple and professionals.
Looking back on their journey, Lulu smiles with gratitude for the love, partnership, and unwavering support that defines their life together.

In a heartfelt birthday message to her husband Rashid last year, Lulu Hassan expressed her deep gratitude, describing him as her best friend and the father figure she never had growing up.
“Happy birthday, my person, my boss, the father of my children. May God grant you long life and good health. You are so important in my life, God knows. You are the father figure I never had… My best friend… My personal person,” she wrote.
Despite being a beloved couple in the public eye, Lulu has often reminded fans not to idealize celebrity relationships. She encourages them to focus on what works for their own relationships, rather than trying to replicate others.
“Don’t be deceived by anyone. Marriage doesn’t come with a manual. Don’t think you can copy someone else’s relationship. How Rashid is with me may not be how your husband will be with you. What works for me might not work for you,” she advised.
Lulu and Rashid, who co-host Nipashe Wikendi on Citizen TV every Saturday at 7:30 pm, continue to captivate audiences with their chemistry and insightful discussions on relationships.
The couple tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Mombasa in 2009, after knowing each other for a few years, and their enduring love story continues to inspire many.
