Nairobi Kithure Kindiki has officially been sworn in as Kenya’s new Deputy President amid cheers and celebration at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).
Kindiki has officially stepped into Kenya’s second-highest office, taking the reins from Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached on October 17.
In a ceremony rich with symbolism, he took the oath of office, administered by Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfrida Mokaya and witnessed by Chief Justice Martha Koome.
The event, graced by President William Ruto, saw a spirited gathering of Kenyans welcoming Kindiki as the nation’s third Deputy President.
As the clock struck 10 AM, the much-publicized ceremony commenced, marked by the ceremonial placement of the Judiciary mace in the swearing-in arena.
With his wife, Dr. Joyce Kithure, by his side, Kindiki took two solemn oaths: the oath of allegiance and the oath of office.
In that defining moment, he publicly declared his unwavering commitment to serving the Kenyan people, setting the stage for his new role in the country’s leadership.
I, Kithure Kindiki, in full realisation of the high calling, I assume as the deputy president of the republic of Kenya, do swear, that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the republic of Kenya, that I will obey, preserve, protect and defend this constitution of Kenya as by law established and all other laws of the republic, and that I will protect, and uphold the sovereignty, integrity and dignity of the people of Kenya, so Help me God,” Kindiki proclaimed in his oath of allegiance.
Following the official swearing-in, the atmosphere at KICC erupted in jubilation as attendees celebrated Kindiki’s remarkable ascent to the Deputy Presidency.
After affirming his two oaths, Kindiki signed the certificates of office, formally solidifying his position as the second in command.
Under the watchful guidance of Attorney General Dorcas Oduor, he meticulously executed the signing, ensuring that each set of oaths was preserved for various official records.
One copy remained with the Deputy President, a second was entrusted to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, and a third was filed with the Judiciary, marking a new chapter in Kenya’s political landscape.
