Kisumu-Kakamgega Highway Accident Survivor Details Moments Before the Crash: “Nilisikia Loud Bang”

The accident at Iguhu on the Kisumu-Kakamega highway left more than 10 people dead and many others injured.

The injured were taken to Kakamega County General and Referral Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were moved to the hospital’s mortuary.

How a Kakamega accident survivor narrowly escaped

Amia Bukasu, one of the survivors of the tragic accident, shared her account of the moments leading up to the crash and how she survived. Bukasu recalled that she had been sleeping when a loud bang suddenly woke her, just seconds before the collision occurred.

“I was asleep in the vehicle when I heard a loud bang, then the crash occurred, and I lost consciousness; when I woke up, I found myself with my head outside the boot of the matatu while the other half of the body was inside,” she stated in a report by KBC.

The young lady who was travelling alongside his family confirmed that they were all safe as her brother was also thrown out by the window when the accident occurred.

“My dad came and helped me out of the matatu, and my brother also escaped through the window,” she added.

Ten people lost their lives instantly when a tanker collided with two public service vehicles, and three more passed away while receiving treatment at the county referral hospital.

Families of the victims were asked to visit the hospital mortuary to identify their loved ones and make further arrangements.

Dina recounted that her son had called to say he was on his way home from school, but he never arrived. Heartbroken, she said she had a sinking feeling he was involved when she heard about the accident in the Iguhu area.
