Niffer Raises Over TSh 35 Million for Kariakoo Victims

Niffer has collected more than TSh 35 million (KSh 1.7 million) in donations to support victims of the recent building collapse in Kariakoo.

Why the Government Wants Niffer Arrested

Moved by the tragedy that claimed at least 13 lives and left many injured, Niffer launched a fundraising campaign. However, her actions have attracted the attention of Tanzania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who has called for her arrest. Speaking during a public address, Majaliwa questioned Niffer’s authority to collect the funds and ordered that her account be frozen. He also warned civilians against organizing similar fundraising initiatives without official authorization.

Niffer Defends Her Fundraising Efforts

In response, Niffer took to Instagram to defend her actions, asserting that her intentions were purely charitable. She expressed surprise at being singled out by the prime minister, saying it was an honor for her work to receive such recognition. Her actions have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some applauding her efforts to help the victims, while others back the prime minister’s insistence on following proper procedures for public fundraising.

The tragic collapse of a four-story building in Kariakoo has resulted in a devastating loss of life, deeply affecting the nation. This incident has raised critical concerns about building safety standards and the enforcement of regulations in Tanzania.

In response, the government has promised to carry out a comprehensive audit of all buildings in the area to prevent similar disasters in the future.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan confirmed that 13 people lost their lives, while 80 others were rescued, including 26 who were hospitalized. She assured the public that the government would take responsibility for the medical treatment costs and assist with funeral arrangements.
