Two Killed in Mlolongo After Lorry Hits Motorbike; Protests Erupt

Two people lost their lives early Monday morning after a Tata Tipper lorry rear-ended a motorbike in Mlolongo, killing both the bodaboda rider and his female passenger on the spot.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bodaboda rider was transporting the passenger from Mlolongo town when the lorry, en route to nearby quarry sites to collect materials, struck the motorbike from behind.

Athi River East Sub-County Police Commander Anderson Mbae confirmed the tragic incident occurred around 6:00 am.

The accident sparked protests as angry residents blocked the old Mombasa Road with tyres and stones, temporarily disrupting traffic. Bodaboda riders who witnessed the crash set the lorry ablaze after its driver fled the scene. Photos shared with Trendy News showed the lorry’s cabin engulfed in flames.

Fortunately, no other property was damaged, as the lorry was empty at the time. Police officers were called to the scene, where they dispersed the protestors and secured the area.

The two victims’ bodies were transported to the mortuary, while the torched lorry and the motorbike wreckage were taken to Mlolongo Police Station for further investigation.

Authorities have launched a probe into the incident as they continue to search for the lorry’s driver, who remains at large.
