Nairobi – Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested Brian Otieno Maurice, the main suspect in the brutal murder of Sospeter Osunga, famously known as ‘Akoko the Billionaire.’ The arrest took place in Kibra, Nairobi County, and was announced by the DCI on Monday, December 9.
“Detectives based at DCI Kibra have arrested Brian Otieno Maurice, the prime suspect in the murder of Sospeter Osunga, alias ‘Akoko the Billionaire’ in an incident that occurred on November 18, 2024,” DCI said.
In the statement, DCI said that on the fateful day, Osunga was attacked by a gang in Ayani area within Kibra.
“Investigations have revealed that on the fateful day, Osunga was fatally attacked by a gang of hoodlums in Ayani area where he sustained fatal wounds on his back, believed to have been caused by a sharp object,” the statement read.Â
Following comprehensive investigations, three individuals were initially detained and provided critical information that, combined with additional intelligence, led to the capture of the primary suspect. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court.
The DCI has urged the public to maintain peace and refrain from actions that could result in unnecessary loss of life or disturbances within their communities.
